Thanks to our lovely tour guide Nadia, we have covered a lot of ground the last two days.
Yesterday we visited Waitangi Treaty Grounds–where the Maori people signed an agreement with the British in 1840.
After that we headed over to Paihia, a backpacker hotspot in the Bay of Islands, to shop around a little, have some kiwi fish and chips, and try Hokey Pokey ice cream–a NZ specialty vanilla with honeycomb flavor. I found this gem of a graphic T in one store.
We finished off at the Stone Store in Kerikeri which is the oldest building in NZ.
Today we did a tour of waterfalls around the area. This little spot is just off the road pretty much in someone’s backyard, talk about the most unreal spot to have a party!
Next we went to a spot called Charlie’s Rock, another awesome waterfall that’s great for cliff jumping and swimming. We finished the afternoon off with a half hour walk through the rainforest to Rainbow Falls where we relaxed in the sun for a while.
